What is Chiropractic?
The word “chiropractic” comes from the Greek and means “done with the hands”.
Chiropractic is based on the following scientific fact: the nervous system imposes its control on all the cells, tissues, organs and systems of the body. A disorder of the nervous system will therefore cause problems in the body’s health balance. Chiropractic aims to recover and maintain human health through the interaction of the nervous, muscular and skeletal systems. She focuses her attention on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases that she can influence through her approach.
Chiropractic centers its philosophy, art and science on maintaining the homeostasis (balance) of the human body and its innate capacity for natural healing. It does not only focus on symptoms or pain, but seeks to identify and treat the cause of the problem.
Chiropractic care focuses on maximizing the body’s incredible potential for self-healing by detecting, correcting and preventing interference in your nervous system. This care may include spinal adjustments, stretching, exercises, or other healthy lifestyle recommendations.
What is a chiropractor?
The doctor of chiropractic is a first contact health professional: you can consult him without being recommended. The chiropractor’s field of expertise affects the nervous, muscular and skeletal systems. He also has the ability to prescribe therapeutic exercises, provide nutritional information and suggest lifestyle changes. He is able to establish a treatment, rehabilitation and prevention plan for each patient in order to maintain optimal health.
In Quebec, the future chiropractor must complete a 5-year undergraduate doctorate at the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières and complete 18 months of clinical work under supervision in a university setting before obtaining the right to register for the examinations of the Order of Chiropractors of Quebec. It is only after the successful completion of these examinations that the doctor of chiropractic can finally see patients independently.
Through his training, the chiropractor has the necessary expertise to make a diagnosis, which will allow him to create a care program corresponding to your physical condition, your age and your health objectives.
